Sonnets

Walk the Sea to Sky

Frozen water. Waves silent on the shore.
Pebbles salty with a sprinkle of frost.
Waiting for the spring to bring sunny thaw.
To bless the coast with heat and life not lost.
Into the forest run the narrow trails
Climb slowly through pine, over fallen tree
Smell the mud, the sap. See the chipmunk tails
and, out of breath, rise above distant sea.
To stand on snow and reach the mountain peak,
To touch the rainbow, smell the golden sun.
Look across to where the sea and sky leak
together to blend; where the sunbeams run.
And you, breathing clouds, breathing sky in deep
You greet the world. Your day has just begun.
